Congratulations to Hat Company of Santa Cruz, the 2024 Headwear Association Retailer of the Year!
The Hat Company of Santa Cruz was originally established in 1985 by Terri Chambers, who successfully operated the company for 19 years. In 2004, while looking for a space to open an unrelated business, current owner, Maria Sentry, purchased the company for the real estate and ended up with a store full of hats. Determined to sell through the product, the store continued to operate as a hat store and a new career was born.
As the oldest hat retailer in Santa Cruz County, CA, The Hat Company offers a broad selection of hats to compliment the diverse community of academics, hippies, surfers, CEO’s, vacationers, college students, farmers and entrepreneurs.
Not content with merely selling hats, the company has actively contributed to the well-being of our community by donating hats, gloves and scarves to those in need, supporting local schools, community groups and the arts, and providing specialized services such as hat repair, customization, cleaning and restoration.
Throughout its journey, the Hat Company has weathered numerous challenges, including natural disasters like the Loma Prieta earthquake and the CZU Lightning complex fire, as well as navigating the complexities of the retail market amidst the COVID 19 pandemic. However, its resilience, adaptability and unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction have allowed the Hat Company to thrive and evolve.
