In 2020 the need to help the homeless was more urgent than ever before. The Headwear Association and several of our Platinum Sponsors stepped up to help their local communities. In November & December 2020, we distributed thousands of hats and cold weather essentials to people who struggle to meet the most basic needs.
Because of generous donations from THA Platinum Sponsors Dorfman Pacific, Bollman Hat Company and Broner Hat and Glove, we were able to provide warm, cozy, BRAND NEW hats (and scarves, gloves & mittens) to homeless shelters and local communities with people in great need. For many of these people, these hats, scarves and gloves would be the only Christmas gifts they would receive this year.
Bollman Hat Company worked with The Hat Ladies of Charleston again this year to get hats out to a community hit hard by Covid and unemployment. This is the ninth year The Hat Ladies have helped us with our Headwear for the Homeless mission to distribute warm headwear to those in need. The ladies brought hats that were generously donated by The Bollman Hat Company, to One80Place, www.one80place.org. We were able to gift 170 hats to people who were struggling this holiday season. Bollman Hat Company has distributed 1000’s of hats to people in need since we debuted our Headwear for the Homeless program twelve years ago in 2009.
It was a win-win situation for everyone as seen by this note from Traci, the Donation and Supply Coordinator: “Hello Beautiful Hat Ladies, Thank you for coming to One80 Place and giving hats to the guests. You went above and beyond just donating hats to people in need; you provided a self-confidence boost by helping the men and women choose a hat that not only keeps them warm in the winter but is also stylish. The event was a success, and we at One80 Place greatly value your continued support. We look forward to future events with the Hat Ladies and The Headwear Association.”
For the past twelve years, Dorfman Pacific has donated thousands of hats to our Headwear for the Homeless program. Dorfman Pacific is based in California where the homeless population grew by 15% this year. The team from Dorfman Pacific took the Headwear for the Homeless program directly to the streets in 2020, working with the Stockton-based community outreach group Inner City Action. They visited areas around Stockton, CA where hundreds of people have no choice but to sleep outside and gave away hundreds of warm Dorfman Pacific hats and gloves to people in great need.
This year, Detroit-based Broner Hat and Glove worked with the organization Brilliant Detroit to help provide warm hats, gloves, mittens and scarves to families who are struggling. Brilliant Detroit is dedicated to helping families and children, and Broner was the perfect partner for them as they make warm weather hats and gloves for men, women and children.
Broner generously donated twenty-five boxes and bags filled with warm weather essentials. In total, Brilliant Detroit distributed 1,400 hats and gloves donated by Broner and brought a lot of joy to hundreds of Detroit families in need.
Thank you to Dorfman Pacific, Broner Hat & Glove, Bollman Hat Company for your incredibly generous donations during a very tough year.
